OK, this looks wicked clever, and we can’t wait to try it out. We always need a boathook, right? And we always need to conserve space on a sailboat. Enter the Revolve Rollable Boat Hook, which earned a special mention at the DAME Design Awards at the annual METS show last fall. Made of rollable composite material, this starts as a flat strip rolled to about the shape and size of an oversized coffee mug, with the attachable hook end stored in the center. Open it up, and it unrolls and curls into a 6-foot tube, into which you insert the hook (or another attachment made to fit it, such as a deck brush). A foam handle and integrated buoyancy chamber mean the whole thing floats. And weighing just under a pound, it’s about 50% lighter than traditional designs. “A 2-meter boathook that emerges from a 10-cm roll of material? It’s magic certainly but no illusion as the extended boathook curls in the other direction when extended to become surprisingly rigid,” the DAME judges said. “Clever use of material design and a sure talking point around the marina.” PYI Inc., and its sister company in Europe, Seaview Progress, are the sole worldwide distributors of the Revolve Rollable Boat Hook.
