After four legs of intense racing, The Ocean Race IMOCA 60 fleet will arrive in Newport, Rhode Island, mid-month for the only United States stopover in the race. In addition to being the homeport of the American-flagged 11th Hour Racing Team, Newport has also hosted a stopover for three consecutive editions of the race. More than 100,000 visitors attended the most recent one in 2018.
The 2015 stopover was integral to instituting the race organization’s sustainability program, which has expanded to include all stopovers in the years since.
A full schedule of events hadn’t been announced at press time, but as in previous years, there will be interactive exhibits, music, and opportunities to catch a glimpse of the IMOCA 60s and sailors when they’re at the docks. During the In-Port Race and the Leg 5 start, spectators will also get to see the boats in action.
